Janet Wood
NASA/JPL Solar System Ambassador Oro Valley, Arizona Janet Wood is a NASA/JPL Solar System Ambassador, one of a nationwide network of more than 1100 volunteers coordinated by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California. The ambassadors present public programs about NASA's space exploration missions. Janet became a space science enthusiast after attending The Planetary Society's "Planetfest" in 1997 which took place in conjunction with the Mars Pathfinder Landing. She became a volunteer for NASA/JPL's Solar System Ambassador Program in 2002 and has been giving programs to a wide variety of audiences since that time. Her current programs include: New Views of the Cosmos with the James Webb Telescope; The Magic of the Moon; Exploring the Solar System (6 part series); Astronomy Through the Ages; Hidden Wonders in the Night Sky; Mysterious Moons, Our Cosmic Connection; and Mars, The Continuing Quest. She earned a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Washington in 1973, and a Master of Science Degree in Geoscience Education from Mississippi State University in 2001. Her special interest is in planetary science. She is a member of the Sun City Oro Valley Astronomy Club. Janet is available to make presentations to community groups and schools in Oro Valley, AZ and elsewhere via zoom. |
